How it works
One photo. The whole menu, made clear.
Point
Take a photo of the menu, or pick one from your photos. Menus up to 6 pages long are read as one.
Read
In seconds, every dish is translated, with a one-line summary of what it is, likely ingredients, spice level and the price in your currency.
Order
Check the flags, ask the menu a question, then show your server how to order in their language.
What one photo gets you
A menu translator that shows you the food
See the dish first
Reference photos for each dish, labelled with where they came from, so you know roughly what’s coming.
Tap the menu itself
Your own photo of the menu with every dish pinned on it. Tap a pin to open the dish.
Ask the menu anything
“What’s vegetarian and filling?” Or set a budget, how many people and the mood, and get a short list.
Order like a local
A line in the local language to show your server, with pronunciation and cultural notes for dishes you’ve never seen.
Prices you understand
Prices in any of 42 home currencies. Filter for safe for me, vegetarian, not spicy or under a price.
Honest about bad photos
If a page is blurry, cropped or missing prices, MenuLens tells you instead of guessing.
Allergies and diets
Set it once. Every menu checks.
Tell MenuLens what you eat and what you can’t. Every dish on every menu gets a flag, worked out on your phone against your own profile.
- Avoid
Red. It contains something you avoid. For a severe allergy, “may contain” is red too.
- Check
Amber. It might, or the menu doesn’t say. Dislikes and too much spice show amber too. Ask before you order.
- OK
Green. Nothing on the menu clashes with your profile.

MenuLens reads menus with AI, and menus don’t always list everything. Treat the flags as a guide and always confirm allergens with the restaurant. Why this matters.

FAQ
Questions, answered
Is MenuLens free?
Yes. As a guest you can scan up to 5 menus a day, with no account and no ads. Sign in with Google or Apple, also free, for 30 scans a day, unlimited questions and saved menus. Daily limits reset at midnight UTC.
Do I need to sign up?
No. Open the app, point it at a menu and you’ll have it translated in seconds. Signing in is optional. It’s there if you want more scans a day, saved menus and your preferences on every device.
Which languages does MenuLens work with?
It reads menus in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Arabic, Hindi, Greek, Turkish and many more languages, and translates them into any of 27 languages. It can also show prices in 42 home currencies.
How do the allergy and diet flags work?
Tell MenuLens once what you eat and what you can’t. Each dish is then marked red if it contains something you avoid, amber if it might or the menu doesn’t say, and green if nothing on the menu clashes with your profile. For severe allergies, “may contain” shows as red. If there isn’t enough information to judge, the dish stays grey. The flags are worked out on your phone, from your own profile.
Can I rely on MenuLens for a severe allergy?
Use it to narrow down the menu, then always confirm with the restaurant. MenuLens reads menus with AI. It can misread text or miss an ingredient, menus don’t always list everything, and kitchens can’t always prevent cross-contact. The flags are guidance, not medical advice. Read more about AI accuracy.
Are the dish photos from the restaurant?
No. They’re reference photos looked up by the dish’s name, mostly from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, to show what the dish usually looks like. The plate you’re served may look different.
What happens to my menu photos?
They’re stored on our servers in Australia and deleted after 7 days, unless you save the menu to your account. To read the menu, they’re sent to Claude, an AI made by Anthropic, which isn’t allowed to train its models on them. The details are in our privacy policy.
