Foodglot in 30 seconds
Watch Foodglot read a Japanese izakaya menu from one photo, for someone with a severe peanut allergy who eats no pork.
What the video shows
- Can’t read the menu? The Foodglot home screen, ready to scan a menu or pick a photo from your camera roll.
- Snap every page. No signup. Add up to 6 photos and Foodglot reads them as one menu.
- Read in seconds. Foodglot reads the photos and translates every dish.
- Every dish, explained. A photo, what it is, and the price in your money: here yen, with Australian dollars next to it.
- Red means no. Amber means ask. Flags from your own allergies and diet. The profile is a severe peanut allergy and no pork, so the peanut miso and the pork belly skewer are flagged red.
- Tap the menu itself. Every dish pinned on your photo of the menu. Tap a pin to open that dish.
- Ask the menu anything. “What’s mild and filling?” Foodglot suggests grilled rice balls, rice in green tea broth and a rolled omelette, and leaves out the tantanmen because it may contain peanuts.
- Order like a local. The grilled rice balls (yaki onigiri) page ends with a line in Japanese to show your server.
- Point at any menu. Know what you’re eating. The Foodglot end card.
Foodglot reads menus with AI, and menus don’t always list everything. Treat the flags as a guide and always confirm allergens with the restaurant.
